Southwick House

Description

The gardens at Southwick cover an extensive area displaying a wide range of plants set in a variety of garden styles, including an impressive selection of roses, hydrangeas and trees. The walled garden contains the large glasshouse in which fruit, vegetables and cut flowers are grown and is fronted by a scented rose bed.. The potager is bounded by shrub and herbaceous borders, two of which have been completely redesigned for 2017. The hedged formal garden is centred by a lily pond and lawns surrounded by rose, hydrangea and herbaceous borders. Outwith the formal gardens the water garden features two connected ponds, one with an island reached by a Chinese style bridge. Trees, shrubs and lawns envelop the ponds and extend along the Southwick Burn across which a Wild Flower meadow has recently been established.
