An interesting collection of gardens that benefit from the shelter of mature trees. The smallest in St Vigeans is a lovely cottage garden with a range of ferns. Visitors may also visit the village museum and church. Balcathie and Cuthlie are larger farmhouse gardens. Both have wonderful old trees under planted with mature shrubs, azalea and rhododendrons. A gentle slope at Balcathie provides the backdrop for a cascading water feature surrounded by mixed shrubs, iris and primula. Hospitalfield’s garden will also support the day (see separate entry) along with nearby Hope, an organic fruit and veg garden which provides training and work experience for adults with learning and/or physical disabilities.
Tickets and maps available on the day at St Vigeans Hall (DD11 4ED) and Cuthlie Farm, Arbirlot (DD11 2NT) and also from 1st April at Ashbrook Nursery, Forfar Road, DD1 3RB.
