It's going to be a glorious weekend for garden lovers this May bank holiday. There is a wonderful variety of gardens open across Scotland, from cottage gardens to large castle grounds. Where will you explore?

Storytelling at Dr Neil's Garden

Step back in time in an oasis of calm at Dr Neil’s garden with the soothing sounds of the nearby Duddingston Loch. Hear tales of the bronze age hoard discovered beneath the waters in the 1800s. The garden, tenderly created by the doctors from scratch, was often used by their patients. Get up close and personal with the soft, rubbery needles of the Abries concolor tree and hear the story of the three sequoias

Storytelling at Culzean Castle

Culzean Castle perches on top of the spectacular cliffs of the Ayrshire coast, looking out to sea on one side and over its historic gardens and grounds on the other, acting simultaneously as a viewing platform and as a splendid backdrop for the extensive gardens. Hear how the land where the walled garden now sits was once the property of a former slave called Scipio, who was brought to Culzean as a child, but earned his freedom and the right to this high value plot of land....

Crawick Multiverse

Crawick Multiverse is a major land art restoration project on the Duke of Buccleuch's Queensberry Estate in Dumfriesshire. Created by landscape architect Charles Jencks, the former open cast coal mine has been transformed into a stunning representation of theories of the universe, linking the themes of space, astronomy and cosmology, using the ecology of the site, and the materials found within, to inspire its design.

Abernethy Open Gardens

The gardens range from individual plots of a few metres square in a sheltered housing scheme to much bigger gardens with ponds, ornamental trees and orchards.

Saturday 5 May, 10am - 5pm

Logan House Gardens

The Queen Anne house is surrounded by sweeping lawns and a truly spectacular woodland garden. Rare and exotic plants together with champion trees and fine species of rhododendrons provide an excellent habitat for an interesting variety of wildlife.
